Dr. Amy Hecht

Vice President for Student Affairs

Amy Hecht HeadShot1Dr. Hecht serves as the Vice President for Student Affairs at The College of New Jersey.  In this role, she provides vision and leadership for the Division of Student Affairs, which is comprised of the Alcohol Drug Education Program, Anti-Violence Initiatives, Athletics and Recreation, Bookstore, Brower Student Center, Career Center, Counseling and Psychological Services, Crisis Response and Behavioral Assessment & Response Team, Dean of Students Office, Dining Services, Fraternity & Sorority Life, Harcourt Scholars, Off-Campus Student Life, Religious & Spiritual Life, Residential Education and Housing, ROTC, Senior Week, Student Activities, Student Conduct, Student Employment, Student Health Services, and Welcome Week.  As the Vice President, Dr. Hecht oversees a Division of over 80 employees and a budget of $53 million.  Additionally, she works collaboratively with other Cabinet Officers to ensure successful achievement of College goals.

Prior to joining TCNJ, Dr. Hecht served as assistant vice president for student affairs at Auburn University in Auburn, Alabama. In this capacity, Amy was responsible for the areas of residence life, Greek life, student conduct, case management and crisis response, student center, student involvement, the parent and family office, and student media.  Prior to her time at Auburn, Amy served as associate dean of students at Temple University in Philadelphia, assistant dean of students at Temple University, and assistant director of student activities at Cabrini College in Radnor, PA.

A professional in the field of student affairs since 2001, Dr. Hecht has served on executive leadership teams within student affairs organizations and has extensive experience leading and managing in higher education. She is a Lead Facilitator with LeaderShape, a national, non-profit organization and held positions with the National Association of Student Personnel Administrators’ (NASPA) and the Alabama State NASPA organization.  Currently, Amy chairs the national steering committee for Assistant/Associate Vice Presidents.

Dr. Hecht earned her bachelor’s degree at Florida State University in mass communications and completed her master’s degree and doctorate in Higher Education Administration at the University of Pennsylvania. Amy has published book chapters and articles focused on organizational learning, change, and executive transitions.  Her research interests include organizational culture, organizational learning, and the effective use of business practices within the field of higher education.

She resides in Philadelphia, PA where she enjoys spending time with her husband.
